Forestry, mining and Lake Superior harbour operations dominate the Thunder Bay industrial mix. Forestry contractors use MegaDome buildings as equipment shelters for harvesters, skidders, fellers and forwarders. Mining and exploration crews use them for ore covers, drill storage and on-site fabrication. Harbour and shipping operators use them for grain and bulk commodity storage with the AR-series abrasion-resistant membrane. Each application uses a different MegaDome series matched to its specific demands.

Aviation is a growing application across Northwestern Ontario. Thunder Bay International, Pickle Lake, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout and remote bush strips all benefit from clear-span fabric hangars — single-aircraft, multi-bay and remote-deployment configurations are all engineered the same way under the Ontario Building Code. Thunder Bay's design loads are demanding. Ground snow load sits at approximately 2.4 kPa with significant wind-driven drift on lakefront and elevated sites. Every Building Depot fabric building installed in the Thunder Bay region is stamped by an Ontario engineer to your site-specific load, with MegaDome XP or XXP series frames specified for the steep ridge profile that encourages natural snow shed. Hot-dip galvanized truss steel is rated to -55 °C — no brittle failure in Northwestern Ontario winters.

Remote-site logistics are where most fabric building suppliers fall apart. Building Depot handles end-to-end coordination — steel delivery, membrane logistics, foundation material supply, crew lodging and mobilization. Helical-anchor foundations let us deploy on sites where concrete trucks cannot reach, with full engineering still stamped for OBC compliance.

Sequencing matters in Thunder Bay because the operational window is short. Foundations need to pour before freeze-up; frame erection can continue into winter but membrane tensioning is fastest in shoulder seasons. We schedule Northwestern Ontario projects backwards from the freeze-up date, with foundations going in July–October so the building is enclosed before December.
