The FR membrane is the fire-retardant version of the PVC-coated polyester skin that tensions over every MegaDome frame. It uses the same high-tenacity polyester scrim as the standard MegaDome membrane, coated with a fire-retardant PVC formulation that self-extinguishes when the ignition source is removed and limits surface flame spread.
Building Depot specifies FR whenever the building will store combustible product, run a hot or fuel-adjacent process, sit inside a facility that is regulated by federal or provincial fire code, or be underwritten by an insurer that requires flame-spread testing on the roof assembly. That covers most Ministry of Transportation salt sheds, most Ministry of Environment waste transfer stations, most municipal fleet garages, and effectively every mining, aviation and hazardous-material storage building.
The FR skin carries the same 15-year prorated MegaDome membrane warranty as the standard skin, and delivers a 25+ year expected service life under Ontario UV and snow loading. It is fully retrofit-installable on existing MegaDome and comparable fabric buildings — a common upgrade path when a storage facility is converted to a process or regulated use.
