The complete guide to municipal fabric buildings.
Ontario municipalities run on capital plans, compliance reviews and the practical need to keep equipment running through winter weather, salt exposure and 24/7 operations. Building Depot is the Authorized MegaDome Dealer for Ontario municipal projects — from salt storage domes that meet the Code of Practice for the Environmental Management of Road Salts, to public works equipment shelters, to emergency response cover for snow ploughs, sanders and brine trucks.
MegaDome municipal buildings carry the stamped Ontario engineering, CSA A660 certification and full Ontario Building Code compliance that municipal capital projects require. Hot-dip galvanized steel frame, chemically inert PVC membrane and engineered foundation systems handle the corrosive, high-cycle, weather-exposed environment of a public works yard.
This page is the Ontario municipal reference for MegaDome fabric buildings — covering salt storage, public works, emergency response, recreation and the full range of municipal applications. It walks through engineering, capital-project documentation, foundation, installation, warranty and maintenance.

From contract to keys.
Municipal MegaDome projects start with capital-project documentation. Building Depot's project manager works with the public works director, the municipal engineer and any consulting engineer of record to define the building envelope, the foundation system, the door layout and the documentation package the municipality's capital-project review requires.
Stamped engineering is sealed by an Ontario P.Eng. against site-specific snow, wind and exposure, plus any project-specific commodity retention or process loads. For salt storage projects, the engineering also covers the L-block retaining wall design and the floor slope to a sealed containment pump-out, meeting the Ontario Code of Practice for the Environmental Management of Road Salts.
Permit submission and any conservation authority coordination is handled by Building Depot. The municipality receives a complete documentation package suitable for council, audit and ministry review.
Stamped Ontario engineering on every project.
MegaDome municipal buildings carry stamped Ontario engineering and CSA A660 certification. Structural design accounts for site-specific snow, wind, exposure and any commodity retention loads. For salt and aggregate applications, the foundation engineering accounts for the angle of repose, the working pile geometry and the loader operating envelope.
Documentation is sized for municipal capital review: stamped drawings, foundation reactions, anchor bolt schedules, ventilation specifications, foundation containment design for salt applications, and compliance statements against the Ontario Code of Practice for Road Salt Management where applicable.
Engineering is included in every quote and stands behind the building through capital review, permit, inspection and any post-occupancy revision.
Engineered to your site, your budget and your soil.
Concrete L-Block + Anchor Strip
Pre-cast L-blocks retain a working salt or aggregate pile. Thickened concrete anchor strip casts the MegaDome base bolts and ties the dome to the wall.
Reinforced Slab + Sealed Pump-Out
Engineered slab with sloped floor to a sealed containment pump-out. Required for salt storage under the Code of Practice.
Drilled Pier
Drilled concrete piers for equipment shelters and yard cover without retained commodities.
Slab + Thickened Edge
Standard slab foundation for public works equipment shelters and recreation buildings.
Turnkey installation by Building Depot crews.
Municipal installs typically run 7–10 weeks. Foundation runs 2–3 weeks (L-block walls take longer than pier foundations). Steel arches raise over 2–3 weeks. Membrane tensioning runs 1 week. End walls, doors and commissioning fill out the final 2 weeks.
Building Depot install crews work municipal yards across Ontario, from small townships in Northern Ontario to large urban yards in the GTA. Site safety is managed to municipal construction standards with WSIB compliance and $5M general liability.
Most municipal installs are sequenced into a single capital-year window, with commissioning ahead of the operational season — salt domes commissioned before October salt delivery, equipment shelters commissioned before winter operations.
Backed for the long haul.
Municipal MegaDome buildings carry the 25-year limited frame warranty and 15-year limited membrane warranty, written for the elevated chloride and brine exposure of salt and road maintenance applications.
Building Depot stands behind the install. Warranty documentation is on file in a format suitable for municipal capital-asset and insurance audits.
Simple, predictable upkeep.
Municipal MegaDome maintenance is minimal but documented to municipal standards. Annual visual inspection of membrane, frame and ratchet system. Periodic re-tensioning at the 5–7 year mark. Salt-zone concrete coating renewal on the operational PM schedule.
Building Depot offers an Ontario-wide annual municipal inspection contract that includes membrane tension verification, frame inspection, salt-zone coating check and a written report suitable for capital-asset and insurance audits.
