A MegaDome building is low-maintenance, not no-maintenance. The annual care list is short, but skipping it shortens membrane life. Here is what Building Depot recommends to every Ontario owner.
Annual Inspection (Spring)
Walk the building after thaw. Inspect membrane for abrasion at frame contact points, look for keder-track displacement, check endwall panels and doors. Photograph anything questionable and send to us for evaluation.
Membrane Re-Tensioning
MegaDome's keder system allows site re-tensioning without panel removal. Most buildings need a light tension check at year 5, year 10, year 15 — Building Depot service crew handles it.
Hardware Checks
Bolts, brackets and door hardware should be visually inspected annually. Hot-dip galvanized hardware essentially never fails, but loose fasteners are worth catching early.
Snow and Ice
Most Ontario snow loads self-shed. After extraordinary events (over design Ss), monitor and clear drift accumulations at endwalls. Never use sharp tools on the membrane — soft brooms or push-rakes only.
When to Re-Skin
Membrane warranty is 15 years pro-rated, real-life service is 18–25 years. When it's time to re-skin, Building Depot replaces the membrane on the existing frame — typically 30–40% of original building cost.
