A common misconception is that fabric buildings are tents and do not require permits. That is wrong. MegaDome buildings are permanent structures and require a full Ontario Building Permit just like a steel or concrete building. Building Depot handles the entire permit process for every project.
What Triggers a Permit
Any permanent or semi-permanent structure over 10 m² (108 ft²) requires a building permit in Ontario. Every commercial, agricultural, industrial or municipal MegaDome installation we do is fully permitted.
What the Permit Package Includes
Site plan, foundation drawings, structural drawings stamped by an Ontario Professional Engineer, snow and wind load calculations, occupancy classification, and any conservation-authority approvals required by the site. Building Depot prepares the entire package.
Conservation Authority Coordination
Sites near wetlands, watercourses or flood-plain require coordination with the local Conservation Authority (TRCA, GRCA, CVC, Upper Thames, etc.). We handle the submissions and follow-ups.
Typical Permit Timeline
Most Ontario municipalities issue building permits for fabric buildings in 3–8 weeks. Rural townships are often faster. Large urban jurisdictions (Toronto, Mississauga) can run 8–12 weeks for complex sites.
