Fabric hangars have become the default choice for general aviation, corporate flight departments and EMS operators at Ontario airports. The economics, daylight, clear-span volume and delivery speed all favour MegaDome over conventional rigid-frame steel. Here is how to scope your hangar project.
Sizing by Aircraft
Cessna 172 fits a 50'x50' bay. King Air or Cirrus SR22 wants 60'x60'. Pilatus PC-12 needs 70'x70' minimum. Citation CJ-class corporate jets need 80'x90' to 100'x100'. Larger Challenger / Falcon class start at 120' span. Door height clearance is usually the binding constraint, not width.
Door Selection
Hydraulic single-panel doors are fastest to operate but require the most setback. Bi-fold doors stack neatly above the opening — good for tight ramp space. Sliding telescoping doors work well for multi-aircraft hangars where partial opening is common. Building Depot specs the door at design stage.
Foundation and Tie-Down
Hangar foundations are typically thickened-slab concrete with anchor channels at the door track. We pour every foundation in-house. Tie-down points integrate into the slab for aircraft chocking.
Transport Canada and Airport Authority Coordination
Hangar setbacks, fire separation, fuel storage and obstacle limitation surfaces all need TC and airport authority approval. We coordinate the submissions as part of turnkey scope.
